Ray Bradbury will live forever thanks to his amazing writings.   Several of his stories were adapted for comic books in the 1950's. See many more great images here:

Rod Steiger acted in a movie I believe was adapted from one of Bradbury's comics entitled "The Illustrated Man". You looked into a spot on his tattoos and it was like looking into the future = as I remember it. Fascinating stories.

Hi Marianne,

Ray Bradbury was a classy guy. This is a quote from an article on Imprint: "In 1951, EC Comics started stealing Ray Bradbury’s work. After three swipes, Bradbury sent a letter to editor Bill Gaines. Not a cease-and-desist order, though. Instead, he wrote, “Just a note to remind you of an oversight. You have not as yet sent on the check for $50.00 to cover the use of secondary rights on my two stories ‘The Rocket Man’ and ‘Kaleidoscope. … I feel this was probably overlooked in the general confusion of office work, and look forward to your payment in the near future."

Haha... I don't know if they eventually sent him the money, but $50 wasn't small change back in '51.

I believe some of these originals are worth quite a bit now, especially if the comics have been kept in very good condition. A friend of mine collections all kinds of vintage finds such as comics, books, and even antique lighting for reasons known only to himself. He isn't a dealer, but he takes real passion in knowing everything about his collections. He can tell you the history of some of his lamps right from the factory to the present day, often spanning up to 200 years. Amazing!

Thank you for your interest in my Bradbury feature. Regarding Emma's question: as I mention in my intro, "Payment was quickly made, followed by two dozen more stories—officially authorized and duly credited."

BTW, I write a weekly column for Print/imPrint, and quite often about comics. If you'd like to see more, just go back to the Bradbury post and click on my name.

Cheers,
~ m
